Good sketching is about speed and layers. Start with a light gesture pass on a low-opacity layer to capture the pose or composition, then tighten on a new layer above with a firmer pencil. Keeping stages on separate layers means you can be loose early and precise late without erasing your thinking.
Pick two or three brushes and stick with them — a soft pencil for gesture, a harder one for structure, and maybe a charcoal for value. Lower StreamLine a touch so the brush follows your hand honestly, and use the sketch as a faint guide beneath your clean line art when you're ready to ink.
