Grunge & Vintage Photoshop Brushes

They're related but they work in opposite directions. <strong>Grunge</strong> adds something on top — dirt, noise, stains, texture layered over the artwork. <strong>Distressed</strong> takes something away — scratches, chipped edges, worn-off ink, usually applied with an eraser or a layer mask. Most convincing vintage work uses both: distress the artwork first, then grunge the surface.

Add a new layer filled with 50% grey, run Filter → Noise → Add Noise with Monochromatic checked, then set the layer to Overlay and lower its opacity. That gives you an even, adjustable grain across the whole image. For grain you can place selectively — heavier in shadows, lighter in highlights — paint it with a grain brush instead.

Riso is a limited palette printed slightly out of register. Separate your art onto two or three layers of flat spot colour, offset each one by a couple of pixels, set them to Multiply so the overlaps darken, and add a light grain over the top. The misalignment and the grain are what sell it — not the colours themselves.

Yes. The packs are exported as brush tips in the long-established .abr format rather than relying on recent brush-engine features, so they import into CS6 and every later version. That same broad compatibility is why the identical file also loads into Clip Studio Paint.
